GOAL
Our second game project at The Game Assembly introduced us to mobile game development, enhancing our understanding of game pipelines, project planning, and agile philosophy.
This project posed numerous challenges: crafting a puzzle game, while mastering game production processes, and ensuring team organization and discipline.
For many at TGA, this project marked their initial foray into team dynamics, communication, and professional ownership

DESIGN FOCUS
Designing a mobile game with engaging turn-based puzzle mechanics that challenged players to think strategically, utilizing the full spectrum of game mechanics, combining and reusing them to solve puzzles.
The design team targeted designing puzzles in collaborative workshops, where problem-solving sessions allowed us to improve, test, and challenge each other's designs.
This collaboration facilitated a strong pipeline for level creation, with three designers pooling their skill sets toward the singular goal of creating an engaging and thrilling mobile game for younger audiences.

REFLECTIONS
Navigating Mobile
Catdow was a pivotal project that expanded our skills in mobile game development and project management. The transition to mobile platforms brought unique challenges, notably in optimizing assets and performance for smaller screens.
It was a rewarding experience to see our game come to life on mobile devices, highlighting the importance of platform-specific considerations.
Taming Feature Creep
One of the key lessons learned was the danger of feature creep. As a design team, we had to navigate the temptation to continuously add new features, which risked slowing down development progress.
This taught us the importance of maintaining a clear focus on essential mechanics to ensure timely delivery.
Embracing Leadership
On a personal level, Catdow allowed me to step into a leadership role as a project manager.
Drawing from past experiences, I provided guidance and organization to our team, especially to those new to teamwork dynamics. It was gratifying to see how effective project management positively impacted our workflow and overall productivity.
